Casual gamers, this economy PC is for you. CyberPower offers a choice of unique computer cases and a processor with HyperTransport technology and NVIDIA GeForce graphics card with Turbo Caching. This under–$500 desktop easily earns our “TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award.”
CyberPower offers lots of fun stuff for their computers, such as neon lights, liquid cooling, gaming speakers and much more. So if you like the look of gaming computers, you can easily create a unique system that looks cool through CyberPower. Or, if you are a gamer, you can customize a powerful system through CyberPower for a practical price.
The model we looked at comes configured with good components and CyberPower offers reasonably priced upgrades. However, this model does not come with an operating system, so you have to add XP Home for $89 or Linux.
This configuration comes with an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ CPU with HyperTransport Technology. This is one of the best processors you will find in an entry–level computer, it runs at 2.4 GHz and performs better than most standard laptops.
The Cyber Power AMD Athlon64 PCI–Express comes with a 160GB hard drive and 512 MB of RAM. This is enough for basic computing. They offer really inexpensive hard drive upgrades if you need more space.
For graphics, this system has an NVIDIA GeForce 7100 GS graphics with TurboCache supporting 256MB 16X PCI Express video card and is configured for 7.1 surround sound.
This system comes with a 16X DVD-R/RW + CD–R/RW Dual Layer Drive, a 12–in–1 flash media reader/writer, a multimedia keyboard, a mouse and speakers. However, accessible USB and FireWire ports have to be added.
This computer includes a pretty good collection of components for the price, but it would be nice if it came with an operating system.
This is the only company we found that offers a standard warranty that includes a three year limited warranty and lifetime 24/7 technical support. Plus you can contact them by telephone, email or chat. We used their chat service several times and found this service responsive and helpful.
We really like the components in this system and the stylish look of the case for the price. For under $500, it would be really hard to find a better configuration.
Upgrades to Consider:
First consideration is an operating system, however if you are not interested in using Windows, you could add an alternative like Linux. The second upgrade we would add is hard drive space, CyberPower’s upgrades are really cheap, for example it is only $45 to boost the hard drive to 320 GB, so why not? Gamers will want to increase the RAM to at least a GB. Lastly, USB ports need to be added, but it only costs $19 for four.
